Ideally, we all want to live in a nation of laws. But we certainly hope the laws are rational, based on the premise of the public good, and enforced with common sense as guidance.
On a recent visit to Panama City Beach in Florida, an Alabama youth minister and his family were confronted by police for building a sand castle on the beach.
What seemed to be an innocent activity for the father and his 7-year old son turned into a confrontation that prompted the response of four police cruisers to the scene to deal with the “criminal” activity.
Learn how Bryant Rylee’s request for a simple explanation of the ordinance police cited turned into an event where he was punished for having innocent fun with his son. The story unfolds on the next page.
I will NEVER go to Panama police state again ! He was fined AFTER he asked what ordinance he violated! I would suggest BOYCOTTING PANAMA CITY! Hit them where it hurts, in the pocket book!
The Burnie Thompson show
Paul, how about do as the officer says and go on about your business. She told him she would only warn him. Funny how you people always know how to play police!
Hello packaged, nowhere was it said that he could not build a castle! Learn to read!
Cook, why doesn’t your high IQ self apply?
Large holes are bad for the turtles, who come in at night to lay their eggs. The rule is in place for a reason. Sand castles are not huge holes, normally. But I do agree that there is something wrong with many people of our society. They think they don’t have to obey laws. And everything is all about them…..
Gosh, they are really going to miss you.
For those of you that know so much, the building of large holes on any beach upsets the laying of turtle eggs. I’m sure that is not important to you because it’s not about you. It’s a law on most beaches and for good reason. And shame on the minister for making a big deal about a law he was breaking.
Panama City Beach, we were thinking about coming their, but not now!
Charlene Allen Miller I don’t care whether they miss me, it’s the money they’ll miss! Thank you for your sarcastic remark!
