Iran is posturing again and leaning on the edge of the powder keg that has become the Middle East. Last year Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari of the Iranian Navy made a pledge to deploy warships in the Atlantic in early 2014 to counter American naval presence in the Gulf.
This action was quietly withdrawn due to “a change in schedule.” This year, however, the Iranian navy participated in action in Syria with the Russian navy.
Find out about this latest action on page 2.
Iran has been firing missiles from ships for quite some time now. Anybody with two brain cells to run together knows that they’re building nuclear weapons. They have the missile capability to install a nuclear warhead with adequate range to hit the middle of the US from a ship in international waters. Firing them simultaneously would not give us time to respond to the attack. A few warheads detonated in the atmosphere and the lights go out immediately. Chaos and anarchy would reign. Think about that before you dismiss an Iranian presence off of our coastline.
So, sink them.

Besides nukes and anti-ship missiles…
Iran has two independent naval forces with parallel chains of command. The conventional navy is called the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN). The second is the naval wing of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGCN). The two navies have overlapping functions and areas of responsibility, but they are distinct in terms of how they are trained and equipped- and more importantly also in how they fight.
The backbone of the regular navy’s inventory consists of larger surface ships, including frigates and corvettes, and submarines. With its longer range surface assets, the IRIN is generally considered to be a conventional “green water” navy. It operates at a regional level, mainly in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman but also as far afield as the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
The Revolutionary Guards naval force has a large inventory of small fast attack craft, and specializes in asymmetric, hit-and-run tactics. It is more akin to a guerrilla force at sea. Both navies maintain large arsenals of coastal defense and anti-ship cruise missiles and mines.

Iran has always been the wild child of the Middle East, but these latest action should be raising concern. With the Iranians cozying up to the Russians, what will happen to the balance of power that has been so chaotically in flux in Syria and Iraq?
Iran has a history of flaunting its agreements, being primarily interested in whatever new whim the Ayatollah has had. A tacit alliance with the Russians during this critical point in the region may leave the US with even fewer allies in the area.
One thing is certain: Iran does not adhere to international agreements. This latest aggressive movement by the Iranian navy could spell new developments for the conflict in the Levant.””
