In Ohio you can be arrested for having a compartment in your vehicle that police think might be able to contain drugs, even if it has nothing to do with drugs. This is not just one of those stupid laws on the books that nobody pays attention to. Instead, this is a law passed in 2012 that was enforced for the first time with an arrest in late November 2013.
Several states have passed ‘secret compartment’ laws that state you can be arrested simply for having a compartment in your car – even if there is nothing in it.

screw them sue them for billions
The law is unconstitutional but yet the story puts it as a 4th amendment violation, when really the 4th amendment has nothing to do with this subject in the aspect that the 4th amendment prohibits the police and protects us citizens from unlawful and unreasonable searches and seizures. HOWEVER before anyone jumps to say that I am saying that this is ok. I AM NOT this is an unconstitutional arrest and deprivation of freedom. Its the same type of law in which the led headlights unless installed by the factory are illegal in most states for anyone to put them in their car aftermarket which not alot of people know.
If it’s your car you should be able to have as many secret compartments as you want. It’s your property.
Boy this is scary. Why should a secure safe box for protecting your property, be a crime, when having it is like having a safe in your house. Another victimless crime trampling on people civil rights!
This is a communist country people………
We are closer than we think to having all of our constitutional rights negated.
Just another example of a government taking more and more of our freedoms away from us. We need to stand up to the government and possible have another American Revoloution. We need to demand the Constitution is upheld.
Wonder if my stow and go compartments would be considered secret in our mini van!
that is total horse $#%&!@*, that is being arrested for a crime that you have not committed and is totally wrong and un constitutional
People need to wake up and read and learn the Constitution and the Bill of rights
