Jean Mamakos, a 68-year-old woman from Long Island, is suing United Airlines for $5 million after she spent 3 days in jail following an arrest for attempting to change seats on her flight.
The charge for changing seats on on a plane? Get this: Trespassing
The story is baffling on several levels and garnered enough attention that it was featured on Inside Edition (watch the brief clip next).
United Airlines is performing a public service offering Flight Attendant jobs to those whose public relations skills would be better suited to be guards on Con-Air.
Would love to be on her jury….
With all the hell the Airlines now puts people through…
Hell you get molested before you can even get on a plane.
I would give an extra 5 million in punitive damages….
There are bakers refusing to bake rainbow cakes that need to be arrested and prosecuted, and they’re wasting time with this nonsense?
She went crazy. I want to hear the flight crew’s side
That’s pure bull from UA. When I was working for the government, I changed to an empty eat many times and nothing was said In fact, I was eve asked on more than one occasion if wanted to move to an empty seat.
Totally more to this story… Hello! Wake up y’all.
before the merger of United and Continental it was not an uncommon occurrence for passengers to switch seats if they were available. Now that there are economy plus seats and extra is charged it is strictly a financial issue. If you pay extra you can sit in those seats, if not don’t try to change. The problem I have is the way it is addressed with the passengers. It is all in the delivery. Shame on United Airlines for saying it is a matter of shifting weight in the plane. Very lame excuse. Man up and give the real reason.
The article states she was on United Airlines flight and she moved to the emergency row exit seats till she was informed of the $109 up-charge and she went back to her original seat. United has economy plus seats in coach which have more space for the leg room. The emergeny row exit is one of those seating areas considered as an Economy Plus. It must have been shocking after returning to her first assigned seat when she heard such an announcement. Perhaps the flight attendant involved was not as kind her delivery method to tell her the bad news. Sounds pretty drastic to be arrested for trespassing. As someone has said, there must more to the story or else it will be a very good lawsuit for her to win. After all she declined the extra money required after being made aware of it and immediately went back to the seat she got at boarding.
ridiculous
Thats Bullcrap .
