Jean Mamakos, a 68-year-old woman from Long Island, is suing United Airlines for $5 million after she spent 3 days in jail following an arrest for attempting to change seats on her flight.
The charge for changing seats on on a plane? Get this: Trespassing
The story is baffling on several levels and garnered enough attention that it was featured on Inside Edition (watch the brief clip next).
What’s next !?
If she returned to her original, assigned seat, the weight and balance problem was already solved. I think United’s air fares just went up to help pay that $5 million!
I just wish she had a “preferred seat”.
Everything nowadays is against the law or a reason for arrest.
TSA and the airlines are out of control what with the strip searches, no meals or customer service and arresting people now for no reason. I’d be sueing them for 10 million dollars.
Wow
“United acknowledged the lawsuit and said it may be tried in Brooklyn federal court.
The airline won’t comment on the case, but said federal law requires pre-flight briefing for anyone seated in emergency rows, and added that balance and weight safety regulations prevent onboard seat changes.’ I feel there might have been an easier alternative to arresting her. What did she weigh 130 lbs max ……..off set the balance of the plane……and as far as the briefing goes we all sit through that briefing too!!..but yet Delta allows guns to be put on boaed their planes?? WTF Sumting wong here!!
I hope she wins. It is about time someone is willing to take a airline to task.
good.. i hope she gets it..
Ha…wait for it… And somehow this is Obama’s fault ? Check.
