Obama drew a lot of heat for not joining 40 other world leaders and millions of people for an anti-terrorism rally held in France this past Sunday.
No other high ranking official from our government attended, including Eric Holder, who happened to be in France at the time.
The White House now states that someone from Washington should have been there.
But we know the real why Obama didn’t attend..all these people, knowingly or not, were marching against him.
Earnest was asked by a reporter to address a rumor that Vice President Joe Biden was “sitting at home all weekend.” Earnest — forgetting his role as the chief dissembler for the Obama administration for a second — answered, “Yes, so was the president.”
I can understand why Vice President Biden didn’t attend; that episode of “I Dream of Jeannie” was on where Jeannie has to get Major Nelson out of a pickle, and ol’ Joe hasn’t figured out how to work the DVR yet.
However, as president of one of the world’s oldest democracies, and the one most closely associated with freedom of speech, wouldn’t the president find himself somewhat obligated to attend one of the largest rallies every conducted in support of it?
The fact that other world leaders seemed to find time in their busy schedules to attend — including Mahmoud Abbas, for heaven’s sake! — shows that standing up to the specter of Islamic terrorism simply isn’t a priority for our president.
And this was after the White House had issued a statement saying that America was “ready to provide any possible assistance to France to help the country overcome the consequences of terrorist attacks in Paris.”
Yet when France asked for quite literally the least the White House could do — send the president or a senior dignitary to provide support in the struggle against Islamic terrorism — Obama voted “present.” Again.
He looks either drunk or high on one of his favorite drugs.
I thought he was playing golf.
He was not
He is one…. muslim. Not all muslims are terrorists but all terrorists are muslim.
Muslim terrorists like Timothy McVeigh, or Adam Lanza just off the top of my head? Seriously Stephen, start spelling your name with a “v” because that is simply ignorant rhetoric. More over, BHO is Christian, not Muslim.
The Far Right here needs to get off the Opinion Based News, your blind ignorance and hatred is showing. I seem to recall the GWB got into calling the French President names and pushing the “Freedom Fries” as the GOP turned it’s back on our oldest ally. Seems this is simply hypocrisy.
A number of the Left here are also wrong, for example the first Foreign dignitary to come in support of 9/11 was the French President.
The majority commenting here would have complained had he gone, and simple want to rant because that is what their “news” sources or party tells them to do.
For failing to accurately represent the citizens of this country.
No business standing with over 40 nations’ leaders in a statement against terrorism?
This was far more than turning his back on France. He snubbed the leaders of over 40 countries. This rally was historic. There is no legitimate excuse for our absence.
This rally was a peoples rally, it was not a world leader rally, thought there were a couple of leaders specifically invited and there were a few that, while having a very poor record on free speech, showed up for a photo op.
In hind sight, as the BHO points out, we should have had someone higher then our French Ambassador and Aid. Erik was there in France, by French invitation, for a summit on Terrorism and how to respond so it certainly was within the reach, but even the French had expected one million citizens and expressed surpress that 40 (no not over 40) leader also appeared. Over 3 million people estimated.
Hunter you have cetainly under played GWB actual insults and pissing match with the French and over played BHO lack of attendance. It is your right to be upset at the latter, but it is extreme hypocrisy it you were not offended by GWB. I know I was and I did personally write an apology to the French President then.
Our president sympathizes with terrorists groups. He is at the heart of it.
