Most of us remember our first paid job where we awkwardly learned the ropes and gained experience in mundane things like getting to work on time, interacting with customers, and making change. For those whose first job was at a fast food restaurant, we probably did not add enough value to the business to justify our paycheck, at least during the first two or three months of our employment. But it was a start, and it taught us valuable lessons.
Jamie Richardson, vice president of White Castle restaurants, with some 400 locations, has stories to tell about employees who have found the environment to be a stepping stone to success, but one that may soon disappear. Richardson shows how the new $15 minimum wage will impact a typical restaurant, and what is likely to happen when the new rate is in place.
New rate will end opportunities for people like Susan Milazzo and Jahangir Kabir, page 2:
B******t….People need a living wage. PERIOD! If you can’t do it someone will!
Oh please.
Increase food prices or, you know, have the CEO and board and top take a pay cut. but of course that’s not even an option up for discussion.
My sister runs a tiny business and makes 6 figures, she pays all of her employees over 20$. But a 100 million+ business can’t? Get the$#%&!@*out of here White Castle.
Don’t listen to these fat (literally) cats, they won’t raise prices, nothing will change except the living conditions of the employees and the fact you won’t need to pay for their food stamps anymore.
It’s all hot air to gain sympathy and support from the public against the pay cut. White Castle isn’t going anywhere and the food prices aren’t going up any more than 10 cents.
And if you don’t believe me.
Think about Wendies. Ever eat there 15 years ago? Back then 1$ was for biggie fries, the large. Today it’s 1.19$ for a super small. Been that way at least 8-10 years. Funny I don’t remember a wage hike back then.
Again it’s complete nonsense don’t fall for it. All it means is they’ll have a harder time pleasing their shareholders, because instead of making 375 million a year they’ll make 350 million. THE SKY IS FALLING
They will replace people with robots and automated service whether the minimum wage stays the same or goes up.
You’re being manipulated. This is hot air, they say these things as a ploy to gain sympathy and support from the public. Manipulation is all it is. Chipotle pays 12.50$ an hour nation-wide, and uses all organic ingredients.
Mark my words: won’t happen.
Pet peeve people put the $ in the wrong place. IT GOES BEFORE THE AMOUNT NOT AFTER.
Computers and machines will soon take other cause nobody will some 15 an hour to say welcome to Mcdonalds how can I help you.
Mark Durden This is the truth…but I bet they won’t cut their profits to pay the employees what they should. I guess the story goes both ways, good point
