Most of us remember our first paid job where we awkwardly learned the ropes and gained experience in mundane things like getting to work on time, interacting with customers, and making change. For those whose first job was at a fast food restaurant, we probably did not add enough value to the business to justify our paycheck, at least during the first two or three months of our employment. But it was a start, and it taught us valuable lessons.
Jamie Richardson, vice president of White Castle restaurants, with some 400 locations, has stories to tell about employees who have found the environment to be a stepping stone to success, but one that may soon disappear. Richardson shows how the new $15 minimum wage will impact a typical restaurant, and what is likely to happen when the new rate is in place.
