Veteran Jonathan Montano was brutally beaten to death by VA police in Loma Linda, CA for trying to leave the hospital after waiting 4 hours with a needle in his arm.
His widow recently filed suit. The couple had been married for 44 years.
“The summoned VA Police Department police officers then stopped Jonathan Montano from leaving the VA Hospital in Loma Linda, by tackling him to the floor, slamming his head on the floor, and kneeing and stomping on his neck, and otherwise brutalizing and restraining him,” the lawsuit said.

I hope they put the police in jail where they belong
This is so wrong. Fire the officers, bring them up on charges, and sue the VA for this travesty.
Since when has the f’ing va had a police force?? Another obummer way to try to control us!
Sorry.can’t blame this one on Obama guys. Former VA employee here and I remember during orientation…long before the O’s time, the “Lt” who also titles himself “Detective” the Durham NC security crowd, textbook definition of the term Napolran complex, giving his stupid welcome spill by beginning “First of alll, I want to get something straight. The VA does not have security officers. We. are gun-wearing, highly trained, sworn police officers! Do not refer to us as security officers. That will p**s us off!” As he attempted to bulk his chest out and pace back and forth in front of the orientees bragging about writing tickets to employees for expired inspections on their cars in the parking lot NOT even VA owned! But yet at the same time, when the evening shift gets off, not one in site as many female staff walk through parking deck in an area not quite known for its peacefulness. I have walked many out to their cars after witnessing them place a call over to the VA policee department asking for an escort at late hours and told.they were nott security! Oh and to boot, the VA purchased 3 maybe 4 of these cool little stand up scooters complete with heavy custom VA Police decals for them to patrol the grounds with I suppose…all chainef together under thr brick walkway..but he they look great…exactly 1 time in the next 4 yrs did I see one of the security guard
The all have that mentality and almost as of that bully demeanor is a prerequisite for the job…or in Durhams case a cute little ted head….but didn’t end up so much that way a few years later…well she’s stilll a redhead, just lots more of her to parade about in front of patients and staff! There was a brutality case of an unarmed 60-70 yr old man either at the Durham or Salisbury VA maybe 4 or 5 yrs back, video was shown on WRAL of the thin elderly man being hit multiple times on the floor with a nightstick.
I grew up in Loma Linda and moved away when I was 19 to join the Military. I’m so appalled at these VA officials and VA police.
I think the police should serve time in prison for murder and his wife be awarded 100million dollars and the entire staff fired and replaced. This is unacceptable.
The VA cop should be in prison and they should be held accountable for there actions, this is bullcrap–no wonder Veterans have no respect for the VA hospital. Don’t get me wrong, I have two wonderful doctors, but there are some folks I don’t care for due to there actions!!
That was senseless.
So … what … ? … if you go into a VA hospital, you’re not allowed to leave? WOW.
This is disgraceful!
Definitely sounds like it. What is wrong with this country? We r suppose to help each other.
I’m a service-connected 70% disabled veteran with parachute jump injuries from my Army airborne days. I went to see in late October about getting MRIs and surgery consults etc… after discovering a loss of 1 & a half inches of muscle in my lower right leg in an inch and a half of my upper right leg. The PA I saw said she’d put in referrals for those things but all I got was x-rays.so in January (after months of waiting) I gave up on the VA and spent money out of my own pocket along with my army return insurance and paid for my own surgeon and MRIs and they discovered horribly ruptured discs & bone spurs in my neck and in my back. So, now I have had two surgeries that VA did not pay a dime for -and now I have eight screws and at least five chunks of metal brackets/spacers inserted in my spine.
VA has some good people,
But as a bureaucratic institution/whole,it sucks!!!
