Veteran Jonathan Montano was brutally beaten to death by VA police in Loma Linda, CA for trying to leave the hospital after waiting 4 hours with a needle in his arm.
His widow recently filed suit. The couple had been married for 44 years.
“The summoned VA Police Department police officers then stopped Jonathan Montano from leaving the VA Hospital in Loma Linda, by tackling him to the floor, slamming his head on the floor, and kneeing and stomping on his neck, and otherwise brutalizing and restraining him,” the lawsuit said.

It angers me every time I read about this veterans death at the hands of VA police.
And the scapegoat will be the nurse who came forward
As a former employee of one of our VA’s I witnessed a meeting in which they were trying to solve a 1000 patient backlog needing colonoscopies. The issue was the VA leadership did not want to bring in a weekend crew to perform the procedures because it would upset the current employees and the Union. Why did they not take care if the patient backlog…..it was because those weekend folks would get paid more money then the regular shift. That was the last straw for me, I told everyone in that meeting who cares about the pay! It’s about those patients who need that procedure and it might be too late by time you get to them because you are concerned with some selfish employees pay and the union. As a veteran and former employee I easily saw time and time again that those in leadership and union are too concerned with promoting themselves then taking care if our veterans. I proud to say I gave up my gov position because I morally and ethically could not stand by and watch this any longer. If I didn’t leave they would have asked me to leave for sticking up for the veteran and not conforming to the leadership and union ways.
bad enough to wait till you die without treatment now they beat you to death to speed up the process
Govt establishments of any kind are clustee$#%&!@*s

If this country doesn’t do something about this I’m moving to Europe!
“Shunt” is not the proper term. He had fistula needle(s) in his permanent access which is either a fistula or a graft. “Shunt” is an antiquated term and “shunts” are rarely used anymore. This story is tragic but not unheard of. As a dialysis nurse I have had patients go to the VA for dialysis and other procedures only to have them wait for hours. Very sad and preventable. I only posted the terminology above for educational purposes.
The person who wrote this article clearly has no idea what a shunt is. I spent 6 years on dialysis myself. The way they wrote this article they make it sound like a shunt is some sort of device that your hooked up too. I also have a hard time believing they stuck him and then made him sit there 4 hours with needles in his arm. They aren’t supposed to stick you until just before they hook you up.
I have a couple of friend’s that are cop’s.But i’m getting too where i don’t trust cop’s anymore
