The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

That’s the Irony of the convention of the states
Yes Damon Feller. More then giving them MORE POWER
The 17th Amendment needs to be repealed. However, it can only be repealed by Congress calling a Constitutional Convention or thru by using the 5th Amendment which allows the States to call a Constitutional Convention. The latter method is the only way it will happen. The current Congress does not have the will to do it.
Absolutely! The 17th Amendment silenced the voice of the States a the federal level. That is every bit as tyrannical as silencing the voice of the People.
Being appointed by the state’s legislatures was a huge restraint on the Senate.
Wake up folks. The corruption is just as heavy and maybe even more influential at the state level. Most prosecuted cases of corruption are at the state and local level. This is just a backdoor run by republicans to free themselves from oversight so they can increase their cash flow.
The Congress can’t repeal any amendment. Jim Wells
Thus is a good thing. If you don’t think it is you’re either ignorant of your Constitution & how the process works or you’re a communist loving$#%&!@* Get informed before replying to things you don’t really understand. And if this makes you worry about the 2nd Amendment or any of the 1st 10, you are who I am addressing.
Well$#%&!@* I wanted to read this but ended up with click click click.
The 17th itself is a danger to the whole bill of rights.
