The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
Patty Miller : lady don’t call the kettle black I am not ignorant. Sorry I’m not as smart as you ! Never said I knew everything !
Ca would still be a lib controlled nightmare with no chance to elect a conservative.
Work would never get done. Leave it alone.
Repealing this Amendment to our Constitution will give the power back to the people over their senators who should be accountable to the people…not the federal government…the people and the state need to have this power back.. This is directly connected to to all of the corruption of our government. This is a step in the right direction. This is not a left of right point of disagreement….both sides think this is beneficial to our country and empowering it’s people once again. Taking back what was rightfully meant to be the power of the people!! The state….not the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. lol….anyone who tries to argue against it will be looking very foolish…do your homework people. I am a bit upset about how many have NO CLUE how our Government even works. Take a CIVICS course on line….PLEASE BEFORE SPOUTING OFF LIKE PARROTS.
It will never happen.
iam so sick of people wanting to change things cause it dont suit them .
Get a life.
Pros: will take some of the money out of becoming a Senator. Will have been control of them on voting for bills.
Cons: will see a greater divide in the Senate. Cronyism would allow whose names can get floated on, who gets the voted in. I guess a history lesson in what drove the 17th Amendment in the first place.
How many of you actually know what the 17th amendment is? How many politicians do? We blindly go around thinking we know some$#%&!@* but nobody even knows what is in the bill of rights, words written in the constitution, or even the declaration of independence.
No accept it you mean spirited man, you lost fair and square! Even your cheating didn’t work!
