The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
The system has got the people hog tied..Secede.
Yeah net he wants to
Not going to happen if they are let to repeal one they’ll want to repeal more!.
I’m all for getting back as close to the original document as we can.
This is a foolish exercise in futility. Any resolution “urging Congress” to do anything provokes raucous laughter in Washington, DC. They have people and machines in DC to deal with these resolutions-they are called paper shredders. Greg Bishop has it absolutely right. The only way this will ever happen is if the states invoke the power wisely provided to them by our Founding Fathers in Article V. This resolution passed by the Utah Senate is a complete waste of time and energy and accomplishes absolutely nothing. The sponsors of this legislation are playing the people for their own political gain.
Repeal Oboma
They will manipulate their way into changing the constitution any frigging way they can, treasonous traitors is what they are…leave it alone….
Not
Yeah lets not fix the issues and problems lets just take away more voting power from the people. Why not make any and all donations come only from citizens and all info has to be public and no corporations can donate. Also tje LDS church elects and vintrols the law in Utah so until he throws their opinion in the trash its a moot point.
The sad thing is nearly 100 people agreed with him by liking this Constitutional ignorance.
