The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

It should be repealed.
Does he want to do away with the Senate?
Interesting but…..?????
No, the 17th amendment made Senate positions voted on by the people. Originally the senators were voted on by state legislatures.
Black people kill
This would take money out out of politics making popular campigns for senate obslete and a more informed group would be choosing.
It would also protect states because senate seats could be at stake if they vote against the domains and power of the various states.
It is time to pull the rug out from under the elites in Washington..
I understand your points, but look at it this way also, once we start changing the constitution it will only be a matter of time till it’s done away all together. their attempts to go after the 1st and 2nd haven’t worked so they will go after the lesser know ones, if any change is allowed than the consititution will no longer exist. put an amendment in if you have to but no changes
