The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
It never was RATIFIED , it should not be LAW…
I think that it is reasonable but why would our legislature get rid of their cash cow?
Why don’t these mfer do their job and uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Instead of trying to tare everything down? I smell a Revolution in the air. We’ll replace the government and not what made this country great.
Sounds like a good idea. I am going to have to reread this and think about it.
that is not at all correct. I will acknowledge that the government wants to take some of our other liberties, like the 2nd Ammendment, but repealing the 17th Ammendment has nothing to do with that issue. Repealing the 17th is supported by those who want to take power away from our government and restore it to the States. that was the original intent of our Constitution. the 17th Ammendment was not added until the 1900s, and it well intentioned purpose, actually too power away from the states. Do some more research.
Mark, the 17th Ammendment gives more power to the freezer all government and takes power away from the States. This was something that our original Constitution was attempt to prevent. The 17th should be repealled.
Asshole.
Of course he wants it appealed, the moron, and I use that term loosely, could not get a job at McDonald’s sweeping floors!
About repeal you
While your at it let’s impose a repeal on the 16th as well.
