The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

*Who the heck wrote this article? Was it a freshman college student?
GOOD. & THE 16TH NEEDS TO GO TOO…we can do it thru a convention of states thru article V if congress wont
Can we repeal the Utah senator?
So basically this guy wants a State government (not its people) to elect their Senator. Hell no! Think about it. This is presented as a pretense of illuminating campaign contributions but if you look at what the 17th amendment says. It says nothing about campaign contributions. It merely states that the Senators of a state are to be chosen by the people not the government. With the exception on a case where an unexpected vacancy happens. Then the governor of the state can appoint a temporary Senator until a special election can be had to fill said vacancy.
If anything, modify the 17th to include term limits as in number of terms and not just number of years per term.
David Sindt the only way to change an amendment it has to be ratified by the states. If that wasn’t the case the second amendment would have been changed a long time ago. The forefathers made sure it wasn’t an easy process as to protect the people

That’s what I was thinking… Everyone seems to have no idea what was in the article.
Why the hell not? the 17th screwed everything up. This was the beginning if federalizing every aspect of our country. Get rid of it!
I mean correct me if I’m wrong but this amendment took away the states republic or sovereignty.
Should be no coincidence that the feds invaded our country in 1913 as well.
