The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
So many wanting to repeal the Constitution, piece at a time. Jim Wells.
How about the 16 th an the 17 both
This was when the takeover of the US really got a hold. The Federal reserve act the Income Act and the 17 th amendment.
You do realize there were only 10 amendments to the Constitution to begin with, right? They were called the Bill of Rights which was ratified as part of the Constitution. All the others were added later. The 17th in the 1920’s. The Constitution has been changed many times over the years and not always for the better. That’s why the amendment prohibiting whiskey was later repealed with another amendment.
Hell yes!!!!!!
We are a representative republic. I would love to see the 17th repealed.
I am in agreement with the Utah Senate. Right now the U.S. Senate is bought and paid for and controlled by special interests instead of the people or the state that they are supposed to represent.
all they need is term limits problem solved
Oh you mean like prohibition?
Since They Like to Give Away Money, LET IT COME FROM THEIR OWN POCKETS!!
