The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
dont states have to vote to either have a new amendment or to end one?
They want to put the State Senators in charge of electing the U.S. Senators. Let the State Senators collect the payoffs from the large contributors. I think they are afraid of loosing their jobs if the citizens vote and choose the Senators. Instead of passing this bill, why not pass one that forbids large contributions from anyone and make it a crime to make donations if seeking favor or special legislation. These people really think Americans citizens are stupid. This is so easy to see through.
F**k Utah there against Trump

The 16th,17th and 18th Amendments are the only ones that increase the power of the federal government and restricted the rights of US citizens. The 16th and 17th should have been repealed with the 18th.
Senators used to be Judges, Congressmen, Governors and even a former President. Now we have Comic from Saturday night live. The Senate, which represented states were to be the real power of the government.
Utah is SO RGHT — Senators are to represent the states and selected by the state legislatures. The 17th just added to the corruptability of congress. People just don’t get that this is not a democracy!
