On Dec. 31, 2014 Utah began the process to retake 31.2 million acres of its own land previously under the control of the federal government. Utah consists of 54.3 million acres, so Washington was controlling more than 65% the state.
The “Transfer of Public Lands Act”, signed by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert in 2012, is an unprecedented move that directly challenges the authority of the federal government.
Now, since the reclaim has taken place, Utah is gearing up to fight the feds.

In the 1700s the Ute and Comanche tribes began peace negotiations to ensure peace between two powerful tribal allies that reigned over the southwestern plains, however, peace talks were interrupted and a fifty-year war followed
On December 30, 1849 a peace treaty was signed between the United States and the Utes at Abiquiu, New Mexico. The treaty forced the Utes to officially recognize the sovereignty of the United Sates and established boundaries between the U.S. and the Ute nation
In 1868 the U.S. government began another treaty to terminate the rights of the Confederated Ute Indians to other lands; however this effort failed as the Utes refused to relinquish their rights to the lands in question.
In 1821 Mexico claimed the Ute territory as their own….after the Spanish War. It was never theirs to claim and give to the US.
But in 1848 after the US wins the war wirh Mexico they ceded their claims to the territory.
1857-1858 – Brigham Young is removed as governor by President James Buchanan who sends a 2,500-man military force to accompany the new governor Alfred $#%&!@*ming to the territory, starting the Utah War. Indians tribes also fought aginst the US in the war … Alongside pioneers.
