On Dec. 31, 2014 Utah began the process to retake 31.2 million acres of its own land previously under the control of the federal government. Utah consists of 54.3 million acres, so Washington was controlling more than 65% the state.
The “Transfer of Public Lands Act”, signed by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert in 2012, is an unprecedented move that directly challenges the authority of the federal government.
Now, since the reclaim has taken place, Utah is gearing up to fight the feds.
MOVE ON TO PAGE 2:
More anti USA conservatives. Pull federal dollars from irrigation and let the west secede.
Good for Utah.
Waste money?
Agreed.
Federal gov’t should stop grabbing land and protect our borders.
Not to criticize your critical reading skills Truth and ACtion folks…but the State hasn’t ‘retook” anything. They could have just as easily p$#%&!@*ed a bill granting them ownership of Venus. Doesn’t make it true.
This is all that needs to be said about that:
Article I Section 8 Clause 17: (Congress shall have power) “To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, $#%&!@*nals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;–”
There is no mention of the Federal government owning huge tracks of land, not used for “the erection of forts, magazines, $#%&!@*nals, dockyards, and other needful buildings.” Any land not used for these explicitly outlined cons$#%&!@*utional purposes, must be repatriated to the states, where they belong.
Please read and understand your cons$#%&!@*ution!
Little by little the union is falling apart back into a collection of independent state-nations. Just as well since the various regions of the US have little to nothing in common with the others.
This is a greedy and short-sighted move by the State of Utah. While I’m all about states rights, especially in times like this; I put the individuals rights above those of the State and Federal Governments. I’m also as conservative as they get. With that said, if for some weird reason the land actually gets into Utah’s hands, they will eventually parcel it all out and sell it off. The only people with that kind of cash sitting on-hand will be big businesses, developers, international investors, and maybe a couple of the wealthier ranchers.
So there goes your hunting, fishing, hiking, and outdoor recreation activities. There goes your water in a water-limited region. Might as well call it Agenda 21.
