6. Human Experiments of Atomic Bomb Effects
In the process of developing the first atomic bombs, scientists decided they must research the effects of the new energies and substances they were attempting to harness. 18 unsuspecting non-consenting patients, were injected with plutonium and then observed. Soldiers were injected with a few micrograms of plutonium for Project Oak Ridge and three patients at a Chicago hospital were also dosed.
Of the 18 patients, tracked and identified by code-names, only 5 survived 20 years after injection.
Researchers also injected 11 patients with uranium at a Massachusetts hospital between 1946 and 1947.
