A US B-52 flew low over Seoul in the week following North Korea’s hydrogen bomb test as a show of commitment to the defense of the region.
A powerful U.S. B-52 bomber flew low over South Korea on Sunday, a clear show of force from the United States as a Cold War-style standoff deepened between its ally Seoul and North Korea following Pyongyang’s fourth nuclear test.
North Korea will read the fly-over of a bomber capable of delivering nuclear weapons — seen by an Associated Press photographer at Osan Air Base near Seoul — as a threat. Any hint of America’s nuclear power enrages Pyongyang, which links its own pursuit of atomic weapons to what it sees as past nuclear-backed moves by the United States to topple its authoritarian government.
The B-52 was joined by South Korean F-15 and U.S. F-16 fighters and returned to its base in Guam after the flight, the U.S. military said.
“This was a demonstration of the ironclad U.S. commitment to our allies in South Korea, in Japan, and to the defense of the American homeland,” said Adm. Harry B. Harris Jr., commander U.S. Pacific Command, in a statement. “North Korea’s nuclear test is a blatant violation of its international obligations.”
…
World powers are looking for ways to punish the North over a nuclear test that, even if not of a hydrogen bomb, still likely pushes Pyongyang closer to its goal of a nuclear-armed missile that can reach the U.S. mainland. Many outside governments and experts question whether the blast was in fact a powerful hydrogen test.
In the wake of the test on Wednesday, the two Koreas have settled into the kind of Cold War-era standoff that has defined their relationship over the past seven decades. Since Friday, South Korea has been blasting anti-Pyongyang propaganda from huge speakers along the border, and the North is reportedly using speakers of its own in an attempt to keep its soldiers from hearing the South Korean messages.

North Korea is notorious for being one of the truest Orwellian nightmares come to life. Between nuclear tests and cyber attacks on US businesses, North Korea remains one of the most bizarrely untouched dictatorships in the world.

South Korea warned North Korea on Wednesday that the United States and its allies were working on sanctions to inflict “bone-numbing pain” after its latest nuclear test, and called on China to do its part to rein in its isolated neighbor.
With tension high on the border after the North’s fourth nuclear test on Wednesday last week, South Korean forces fired shots toward what Yonhap News Agency said was a suspected North Korean drone.
It returned to the North after the shots, South Korean military officials told Reuters.
The North’s nuclear test has angered both China and the United States and again raised questions about what can be done to stop its development of nuclear weapons.
The World Economic Forum withdrew its invitation for North Korea’s foreign minister to attend its annual Davos meeting, which was to have been the country’s first participation in the event in 18 years, because of the nuclear test.
North Korea said it had tested a powerful hydrogen bomb but the United States and various experts doubt that, as the blast was roughly the same size as that from its previous test, of an atomic bomb, in 2013.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted nearly unanimously on Tuesday to pass legislation to broaden sanctions on the North.
But apparently unperturbed by the prospect of further international isolation, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for an expansion of the size and power of his country’s nuclear arsenal, urging the “detonation of more powerful H-bombs”, the North’s state media reported.

Don’t not support any other outside wars at this point in time my brothers and sisters. We do not need any more of our true patriotic American soldiers leaving this country right now!! What we need is all our forces back here before the upcoming events that an evil force has brought upon this country! If you don’t know what’s going on in this country by now, I don’t know how to fully wake you all up. This is no longer about corruption, it is about full infiltration from an evil force that will very very soon come to full light!! We are in the last steps of a forced chess game that has been played against us!!! And over the past 7 years most of the moves have been done right out in the open for all to see!!! Wake up my brothers and sisters, don’t fall into any more steps of the plan!!! Take a step back and put your thoughts into the enemies mind!!! Repen . Pray and prepare like never before! Do not underestimate the number of the evil. It has been building and preparing right in front of our faces and behind our backs.. Now its hiding all across the nation in the shadows and in the light. And they are very well armed too, they’ve had unlimited resources, our resources!!!! We need as many of our true american citizens, military and police forces on our side as possible. As true Americans, we all need each other for this upcoming holocaust!! The evil has grown to deep and grown very very very large in numbers while most were asleep and many still are!! Do not, I repeat, do not underestimate the number of the evil!!! Good luck to all, and may god have mercy on us all.

Mr Noah…. There are plenty of patriotic real Americans to protect the USA if and when war comes; your welcome to come to my place if and when war starts, that’s to all real Americans.
Like they care
Thanks. Yes I know we have a lot. But we need all we can get, because there are a lot more than we think already here, and as I’ve always known, if a war were to ever break out here, you better believe it won’t be long that countries like Russia and China will rush in here to try to hit us while we are partly cleaning up our own backyard. I’ll do my best to take out as many as possible when time comes, and I’ll die with pride and no fear of death. Not all of us are military soldiers but, many of us are at pure heart. The guns are here waiting and the cob webs are all cleaned off!! Just make sure your well stocked up. Best to be prepared for a long haul. Just like a hurricane coming our way, we may not get hit, but we prepare for the worst and hope for the best. But I’m all but positive, unfortunately this ones gonna hit. Good luck my brother.
