Mason, with the curly blond mop and hazel eyes, was only 16-months-old when he died in a hit and run accident. On August 30th, the Roten family was driving in Walkertown, North Carolina, when a black Chevy Impala crossed the center lane into the path of their truck. Mason’s dad swerved to miss the impending head-on collision. The truck truck flipped and hit a tree, which fell on the their vehicle, crushing little Mason.
An Elkin High School alumni made and installed a bench near the playground at the Elkin Municipal Park. Each week Mason and his brother would play at the playground. Heather, Mason’s mom said, “They had a blast down here… He was just a joyful little boy.” The bench meant so much to the family and was engraved with Bible verses and crosses to memorialize their happy baby.
The bench vanished from the park because of the religious emblems on city property. Follow more of the story on page two.
That’s not actually how it works. You can’t just place something in a city park and ignore all of the restrictions. Would you react this way if a muslim started putting religiously decorated benches anywhere they wanted to?
We walk past things every day that don’t necessarily go along with our beliefs! Yes I would react the same way! I see buildings of many other religions in the city I live in and they don’t bother me! Would the same thing be done to a Muslim if they placed a bench where they did not have permission? Since Christians usually are quiet about these things would the city officials do the same thing to a Muslims since there would be a cry to every newspaper of “racism”?
Rebecca you are looking at this from a skewed perspective. This park does not have ANY benches with religious inscriptions of ANY kind (city park). This couple (according to the city) placed the bench WITHOUT prior approval. Should they be able to just do whatever they want? Is it impossible to take the religious aspect out of this and just look at it logically?
I am looking at it logically! I said that they should have followed the rules! If they didn’t then it should be removed! You said how would I feel if Muslims were putting their religious things where ever they wanted! If they are following the rules then it is their right!
Rebecca I guess I missed the part where you said “they should have followed the rules”.
Approve it
Or they should take to the courts
Get rid of all the people pc people who want to remove the bench
I hope his family can get approval to put the bench back.
NO Way !
