At over three times the median U.S. household income, this Democratic congressman thinks he and his fellow representatives deserve a raise.
Rep. Jim Moran (D., Va.) told CQ Roll Call members of Congress are “underpaid” and he plans to introduce an amendment to correct the injustice.“I understand that it’s widely felt that they underperform, but the fact is that this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world,” he said.
While that claim is not technically true (the European Union is the largest economic entity in the world), let’s assume for a moment that being on the U.S. “board of directors” should warrant a raise for Congress.
Congressional salaries have been frozen since 2010, but regular members still pull in $174,000 per year – more than triple the 2013 median U.S. household income of $52,000. Leadership positions are compensated higher.
Additionally, the “board of directors” has not exactly been delivering for their “shareholders.” Unemployment remains a staggering 6.7 percent, and the labor participation rate hovers at historical lows.

He also supported Obamacare. Perhaps that is why he quit..
This guy can kiss my ass.
Congress is not earning what they get now. Congress, the Senate, the President and his cabinet should all be non paid, truly public service jobs.
I hope he does try to introduce legislation to give him and his buddies a raise and I hope John Boehner brings it to the floor, then we can get rid of 2 idiots at one time. How about doing what your constituents want and introduce legislation to the floor addressing Term Limits?
He’s full of baloney!
And why haven’t you people in congress impeached that bastard yet??
Yeah. And they think WE are overpaid. Heh…
hell they are over paid !
no, but I think the unemployed are underpaid. Maybe if they as in our Congressmen and Senators and this administration did their jobs and helped to create jobs instead of whining about everything and doing injustices to Americans like trying to pass amnesty and Obamacare, the country could recover and American citizens might be able to return to the workforce..
NO.
