Andrew Arterburn, the owner of One Stop Express in trendy Uptown, Dallas isn’t too happy that the shoplifter who stole $120 worth of laundry detergent on Thursday from his store will have charges dismissed.
“It’s a slap on the wrist. They go to jail, get a meal, get let go. And they’re not going to be prosecuted at all for it,” said Arterburn.
Stores owners across Dallas, Texas probably feel like it’s open season on their stores after new Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot declared that there will be no prosecution for those who steal less than $750 worth of what are deemed ‘personal items’ from stores. As long as someone doesn’t steal for financial gain and as long as it is below the $750 threshold any anyone can steal with fear of prosecution.
This is part of Cruezot’s criminal justice reforms that he campaigned on.
“When I ran to become your District Attorney, I promised you that I would bring changes to our criminal justice system,” Cruezot said.
“The changes that I promised will be a step forward in ending mass incarceration in Dallas County, and will make our community safer by ensuring that our limited resources are spent where they can do the most good,” Cruezot explained.

Kind of sad that not only are they able to get part of our paychecks for drug abusers, but now those same druggies can steal up to 750$ worth of our stuff without prosecution…this country is done for, owned and operated by thieves
you are so full of it…if they get away with that, they will get away with anything
What this article fails to mention is that the store owners have the right to defend against theft (i.e.: shoot the punk) also without fear of prosecution. Good luck, criminals!
This is nothing more than a travesty and a miscarriage of justice! So much for our law and order state thanks to liberal antics from the likes of this idiot!
Criminal in place or position of authority. Much like new york, this is their plan to normalize crime and say “safer”. Translation, live with the crimes as we do nothing about it
I suggest shop owners send a bunch of people to the DAs house to steal all items valued under $750.00. Betcha that would change some laws!
This is what is happening in California, don’t stand for it. Our nice little towns are turning into s**t holes. It isn’t safe to be out at night & some are emboldened to do it in broad daylight.
Going to be a lot more store owners with guns under the counter and shootings of shoplifters.
Well I hope everyone in the Dallas area goes to his home and offices and help themselves to everything under that $750 value. He apparently won’t mind.
yeah, but I bet the rate of vigilante actions towards those who are caught stealing goods less than $750 worth of goods goes through the ceiling !!
