Andrew Arterburn, the owner of One Stop Express in trendy Uptown, Dallas isn’t too happy that the shoplifter who stole $120 worth of laundry detergent on Thursday from his store will have charges dismissed.
“It’s a slap on the wrist. They go to jail, get a meal, get let go. And they’re not going to be prosecuted at all for it,” said Arterburn.
Stores owners across Dallas, Texas probably feel like it’s open season on their stores after new Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot declared that there will be no prosecution for those who steal less than $750 worth of what are deemed ‘personal items’ from stores. As long as someone doesn’t steal for financial gain and as long as it is below the $750 threshold any anyone can steal with fear of prosecution.
This is part of Cruezot’s criminal justice reforms that he campaigned on.
“When I ran to become your District Attorney, I promised you that I would bring changes to our criminal justice system,” Cruezot said.
“The changes that I promised will be a step forward in ending mass incarceration in Dallas County, and will make our community safer by ensuring that our limited resources are spent where they can do the most good,” Cruezot explained.

Gonna be an awful lot of shot up and left for dead shop lifters soon.
He wants to make the city safer and reduce crime. Typical, make theft legal then claim that crime has been reduced!! We are a safer city!!
Does protecting your property become a crime? Will any type of payback in community time or restitution be fulfilled? Are or is it your plan be to reward criminal acts?
Will you give them the key to your kitchen or garage?
What or how do you see abetting criminal acts as encouraging people to become self supporting, honest citizen?
My parents were from Texas, and you were taught for every action there is a consequence.
I don’t believe a starving Mother, a child or parent should stealing food, but a food pantry location should be made known.
But stealing for resale to buy drugs, guns or other illegal substances call for jail.
somehow I can’t see the people of Texas allowing Dallas to turn into San Francisco.
Then he should not prosecute the victims of the theft for recovering the funds for the items stolen or prosecuting the thieves in the public court.
WTF
Changes to the criminal justice system shouldn’t mean that criminals get off scot free for shop lifting, how stupid it gives every one cart blanch to steal Willy billy as long as it’s personal items under $750. You need a good kick in pants with a $749.99 pair of metal cap pointy toe boots you half wit.
This man should be thrown out of office. Theft is theft and against the law, who the hell does he think he is. He sure is not a law enforcement officer. Theft will now run rampant in this community and it can all be laid at his feet, What were the voters thinking, oh, ya, it must be the illegal aliens that got onto the voter rolls and have f**e ID’s.
How do we get rid of this DA that is the most ignorant thing in the world! How damn stupid can you get. Fire him right now!!!!!!!!!!!
They need to pay for time spent in jail and the theft. Honest people and taxpayers do not need to be penalized for crimes. As well as your salary
