San Antonio, TX: government officials announced plans to house illegal immigrants, who they call “residents” rather than “detainees,” at a ‘remodeled’ facility including flatscreen TVs, new clothes and astro-turf sports areas. Does the move to put these children in school suggest the administration really plans to house them here for just 23 days?
Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday will open a remodeled detention center three hours north of the Rio Grande Valley.
The Karnes City center will house women and children who entered the country illegally through the Valley.
The 532-bed facility underwent a massive renovation to house women and children. The center housed only adult immigrants in the past.
Immigrants will be at the facility for an average of 23 days.
The feds said the rooms will be referred to as “suites.” The suites are furnished with bunk beds, play tables for children, flat-screen television sets and landline telephones.
“I will refer to everyone in this facility as a resident. ICE generally refers to people in custody as detainees,” ICE San Antonio Field Office Director Enrique Lucero said.

That is not fair. There are millions of single mothers and fathers trying to support their child that need help so badly. many cannot afford a car so cannot get to work. A part of Waitresses tips were even confiscated and many are in need of a break. Some people who have to spend their whole pay check on medicine cannot even get food stamps to help them unless they have a bunch of children and every time they get a tiny boost in Govt money , the Govt raises the minimum wage so they cannot get food stamps and they have to choose their medicine and not buy the food they need. America does not have enough money to support these abandoned children. They are not America’s responsibility. It is sad some countries do not care for their own but that does not mean America must care for them. They need to go back to their parents who hopefully will care for them the best they are able. They should have used birth control not ship their children to another country .
