When the average person thinks of Yellowstone National Park, beautiful scenery, colorful geysers, bears and buffalo probably come to mind.
What most people don’t know is that the park sits on top of a supervolcano and the area is subject to frequent earthquake swarms.
Since June 12, more than 400 earthquakes have been recorded in Yellowstone. The latest one was yesterday, a magnitude 3 earthquake that struck 8.6 miles north-northeast of West Yellowstone, Montana.
With so much seismic activity, is there a risk that the multiplicity of earthquakes could trigger a volcanic eruption?
Find out what leading scientists think on the next page, as well as what the impact of a supervolcano eruption could be.
Daniel. I live in California. I’ve been thru many quakes including the 89 quake. The epicenter was 12 miles from my house. As far as Yellowstone is concerned it looks like the magma chamber is growing. It could be decades, centuries or a millennia before it goes off. Franking isn’t causing this.
Proof or it didn’t happen. Show me thermal to prove it… you can’t because the people that study it can’t…
I suppose you think the 89 quake was caused by fracking or global warming or some other b******t reason.
Man does not control the future or the environment-God does. Repent and seek His mercy!
Yikes. Is it decompressing or warming up for the big one.
anything is possible
its been done before a few times…guess what were still here
Hundreds of quakes in that region a day. No it’s not.
You know I have to ask. I Have my own beliefs and it’s not god or a god…or the devil. I’m just wondering though what if you are wrong in the fact that Jesus and his father are real God’s? What if Budda is the real one or Muhammad? What if the Hindu religion is the right one. What if you are wrong? I’m not trying to start a fight just wondering.
Chris Shuler I’m not wrong
