The legalization of gay marriage and the societal disruptions it brings and will bring are now beginning to appear. The platitudes suggesting that it is simply about allowing for “more love” and formalizing same sex relationships seldom takes into account issues such how such unions impact children.
Having said that, the cat is now out of the bag, and society will have to deal with situations such as gay parent adoption and custody of children by gay parents. One such case has just gone through the full gamut of legal wranglings, including being addressed by the Supreme Court.
The case involved two women who were in a committed relationship, living in Alabama for over 17 years. The first woman gave birth to three children while the couple was together, and the couple chose to have the second woman adopt all three children so they had two legal parents.
On advice of an attorney, the adoption was done in Georgia rather than in Alabama since Georgia had laws that were more favorable for such legal unions than were those in Alabama. Full parental rights were granted at that time to the non-biological partner.
See what happened to the adoption order, page 2:
Did anyone here (besides Larry) actually read the article?
Two women – together 17 years, ended their relationship.
One woman is the biological mother.
The other woman adopted the children in Georgia. Alabama did not award the adoptive mother joint custody.
Where are the orphans and the homeless you speak of? Who is going to foster care?
States rights? Alabama decided that Georgia had misinterpreted their own law by granting adoption in the first place.
So, one state says yes and another state says no – now, as an American citizen, what’s the next logical step? You go Federal to get an answer to your problem.
If this is the “thinking” group of the American population… We’re in a lot of trouble no matter who get elected.
Read, research, understand, grow wisdom.
Do not regurgitate “for the children” c**p – when the courts literally did consider them. The children’s biological mother retains custody.
Bull c**p
Is that 90’s Drew Carey there in the pink shirt?
Good.
God NEVER intended For a Child to have 2 mommas! or 2 Daddys! Any Man can be a Father and any woman can be a Mother. Momma and Daddy are reserved for the child to make that Title legitimate! But Sodom and Gamorrah was real! God destroyed it! Does no one in the Govern remember the story from Sunday school?? Before Mu Slimes started their Ravaging of the World! To Be their World?? Most of the People in the White House are Mu Slime! and This goes right along with Clinton’s agenda! There are millions of Married (Man and Woman) couples that cannot conceive! And many have had to Adopt from China! Because the Gov and the liberal adoption agencies want to keep FILLING THE QUOTAS!!! There are 1000’s or white and black couples that are wanting to adopt a child! This is against Natural Law!
Justin there are 1000’s of man woman couples that cannot conceive, and the Gov is over stepping boundaries by even making a Judgement! It use to be the gays seemed to be living in very liberal states (Calif, New York) Now they step out PDA and parents have a hard time telling their kids why its wrong! I just called a friend that was raised in an orphanage and he went thru 3 families before he was comfortable and that family was the poorest of the 3. He wanted love and he got it! He told me he’s known a couple of whit kids adopted by black families and love their parents, but they were picked on and called names and our parents wouldnt let us play with those kids. There are local moors in every village or big city, and they differ on things like this 180 degrees … I hope the gay couple explain that they are a totally diff couple and some people hat them for their ways!
All we need now is another Obama appointee on the Supreme Court–
It’s not wrong too be gay and they should be allowed too adopt and I’m from Texas
First, you know very little about adoption. There are American babies waiting to be adopted and no one wants them. Which actually justifies some of the other comments people have made here.
Second, while your version of a loving God is entirely different than my loving God, the argument here is not about sin. It is literally about which man-made law should be units and followed? I’m not going to throw separation of church and state at you, but there is a time to focus on the issue at hand and not send it spinning into a tired banter of what you think God wants. Focus in the law, the problem this parent is facing.
Soon this is all the SCOTUS will be doing
