Ever had to deal with a power blackout during the hot summer months? Then you know just how important keeping cool can be.
Over on The Good Survivalist we found a great tip to save you money and keep you cool:
Seems every year people die due to heat. Keeping your home cool in the summer can be very expensive if you use your air conditioner. This air conditioner is very simple to make, and can be made in a few minutes if you are handy.Even if you are not handy you’ll be able to make one of these DIY air conditioners. One of the nice things about this air conditioner is that it will give you up to 6 hours of coolness. This thing works so well you may need to put on a sweatshirt! To make one of these babies you need a few simple tools, a couple of 5 gallon buckets, along with a few other items. Everything is shown in the video.
Really? This bull$#%&!@* AGAIN!?
DOES NOT WORK!!
doesn’t work, don’t waste your time
I looked at this and decided to click on other items, My spam eater stopped it dead, I wud suggest staying away from this????
Edumacate me, plz … why doesn’t it work? This is the first time I’ve seen this.
There are two sound scientific reasons this does NOT work, especially in humid climates.
A traditional ac system removes moisture from the air. This contraption adds moisture this raising the humidity of the room.
The bigger reason it does not work is that even a small window ac unit rated for 6,000 btu/hr essentially puts the same amount of cold air into a room in 24 hours as a 1,000 pound block of ice. Even if you ignore the fact that this would increase the humidity, Unless this contraption has the ability to transfer the cold from 1/2 ton of ice every day, it just won’t work like even a small window ac.
Plus you would need a pretty big freezer to store 1,000 pounds of ice….and you would have to add about 42 pounds of ice every hour….
You would be much better off submerging your head in a bucket of ice water.
How far do you think that bag of ice is gonna get ya?
Thank you.
I built one of these last summer, it worked ok, but not great…. Maybe need a more powerful fan…
Plus all the heat you remove from the water to freeze it is dumped back into your space.
