Ever had to deal with a power blackout during the hot summer months? Then you know just how important keeping cool can be.
Over on The Good Survivalist we found a great tip to save you money and keep you cool:
Seems every year people die due to heat. Keeping your home cool in the summer can be very expensive if you use your air conditioner. This air conditioner is very simple to make, and can be made in a few minutes if you are handy.Even if you are not handy you’ll be able to make one of these DIY air conditioners. One of the nice things about this air conditioner is that it will give you up to 6 hours of coolness. This thing works so well you may need to put on a sweatshirt! To make one of these babies you need a few simple tools, a couple of 5 gallon buckets, along with a few other items. Everything is shown in the video.
This is cool
Doesn’t work in Arkansas. Moisture cannot evaporate in 98% humidity in the summer, at the very least. Maybe New Mexico?
yeah so , if theres a black out how you gonna plug it in ??????? cause it has a power cord and you said this is for a hot summer day when we deal with a black out ???? just saying

Here you go Dawn Higgins a cheap fix to an air conditioner!!
OK, question, what did he use for the interior liner? Is it just a smaller bucket, or is it some type of styrofoam bucket?
OK,a couple points for all the haters out there:
1. They are using a solar panel for this to power the fan. This is not meant to be a new source to completely cool your home. Small areas, yes. You COULD use it cool your bedroom to help cut your electric bill down a tad I suppose. Even plugging this fan in to your wall outlet will be cheaper than running your air conditioning unit.
2. If you put 10-15 gallon jugs full of water in your deep freeze, this would give you enough for 2-3 days and be able to rotate them out. Now for those of you talking about waste of space, let me say this. If you have ANY open space in your freezer, you are paying to freeze air. The less air you have in your freezer, the less it has to turn on. A full freezer turns on less than an empty freezer. Fill the empty shelf of an upright freezer or the top of your chest freezer with gallon jugs of water and you will find your electric bill a little lower, PLUS you can have a few days supply of small area cooling. AND if you ever run into a SHTF scenario, you will have 10-15 gallons of water available to drink. Just buy gallon jugs of distilled water and keep refreezing them and don’t open them!
