I am wondering where I can cash in on my white privilege. This particular Truth and Action writer is a very pale skinned woman and the privilege this whiteness has afforded me has been sunburn and freckles. That is about it. But apparently, former President Tim Wolfe of the University of Missouri is infected with white privilege and the many perks that go along with it and because of it he had to resign.
What exactly does this phrase mean? And more interestingly, why does it get applied to only the whites that are hated versus the whites that help push the dogma?

White skin privilege is not something that white people necessarily do, create or enjoy on purpose. Unlike the more overt individual and institutional manifestations of racism described above, white skin privilege is a transparent preference for whiteness that saturates our society. White skin privilege serves several functions. First, it provides white people with “perks” that we do not earn and that people of color do not enjoy. Second, it creates real advantages for us. White people are immune to a lot of challenges. Finally, white privilege shapes the world in which we live — the way that we navigate and interact with one another and with the world.
White privilege is a “transparent preference for whiteness…” well, my skin color verges on transparent, so perhaps I fit the bill.
