Saudi Soccer Team Refuses to Stand for London Bridge Terror Victims

The Saudi Arabian soccer team attended the World Cup qualifier against Australia this week and controversy soon followed.  As the Australian team had followed protocol and entreated the league to allow them to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of the victims of the London Bridge attack, they locked arms moments prior to the game and asked the fans to stand for this solemn moment.  It was at this point that fans were suddenly infuriated as they witnessed a truly despicable act.

Pictures show the Australian team lined up at the halfway mark, with the Saudi players ignoring the gesture as they get in formation to start the game.

Saudi players on the bench refused to stand for the minute’s silence.

A spokesperson from the Football Federation Australia told Daily Mail Australia they had been advised prior to the match that the Saudi team would not be taking part.

‘The FFA sought agreement from the Asian Football Confederation and the Saudi national team to hold a minute’s silence in memory of those lost in Saturday night’s terror attack in London and in particular the two Australian women,’ the spokesperson said.

‘Both the AFC and the Saudi team agreed that the minute of silence could be held.

The entire Saudi team opted toamble about the field in defiance of the moment of silence, choosing instead to symbolically spit in the face of the victims and the hosting Australians.  The fans were so enraged by their seeming disregard for human suffering that they immediately inundated Twitter and Facebook with posts demonstrating their outrage.

Following the Twitterstorm of angry people, there were the Leftists out in force shielding the poor Saudis from the horrible words of the non-believers. One of the write-ups explained that, as Muslims, they rarely observe moments of silence. So, question then…

Does “rarely” mean never? Because apparently “rarely” qualifies as only IF the dead are Muslims, because if they are infidels, well, then, they had it coming, didn’t they?

And so, the excuses piled up and the protectionism of the Islamic faith was in full force as Leftists the world over rose up in brotherhood to ensure that no Muslim was offended by the evil emotions of the Australian mobs online. Of course, no Australians were going to strap bombs to themselves and show up in a downtown crowded square in Riyadh and murder innocent people, but that doesn’t change the fact that Muslims COULD HAVE been affected by the off-putting comments. Dirty Australian infidels!

After the obligatory show of support for the Saudi team and the multiple explanations that appeared to be almost coordinated in how they were worded that Muslims do not observe moments of silence, an imam, sheikh Mohammad Tawhidi, made waves amongst the Leftists who probably wish he had just kept his mouth shut.

An Islamic imam has suggested the Saudi Arabian team refused to take part in a minute’s silence for the London terror victims because they believe ‘it is not a sin for a Muslim to kill a non-believer’.

Sheikh Mohammad Tawhidi says it is a ‘lie’ to say the Muslim culture does not remember the dead with a moment of silence, and instead argues the football team did not partake in the mourning because they stand with the jihadist men.

‘They did not stop for a moment of silence because according to Wahhabi Islam – which governs Saudi Arabia – it is not wrong or a sin for a Muslim to kill a non-Muslim,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.

‘Their response suggests that within Muslim culture they don’t remember the dead with a moment of silence. This is a lie.’
Sheikh Tawhidi says under Islam Sharia law it is not ‘wrong’ or a ‘sin’ for a Muslim to kill a non-Muslim.

‘In their eyes the attackers are martyrs who are going to paradise. And if they stand for a minute of silence they are against their Muslim brothers who fought for jihad and fought the ‘infidels’,’ he said.

Sheikh Tawidi also added the team would have been ‘ridiculed’ back home if they had commemorated the victims of the London terrorist attack.

But this may not be the view of every player within the Saudi team, he pointed out.

Then, in response to those damaging words, internet sleuths came up with multiple examples of teams of Muslim faith (in both print and photos) standing and observing moments of silence in different venues and for different victims.

Well, there go all the Liberal heads exploding in unison. Back to the old drawing board, I guess. Time to come up with an even newer and craftier excuse as to why the Saudi players were such poor excuses for human beings.

Oh, and P.S…they lost the game 3-2 to the Australians. Think I’ll eat a vegemite sandwich in tribute!

Update: The soccer team has issues and apology

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation issued an apology after its national team provoked outrage in Australia by not formally participating in a moment of silence for London rampage victims.

Ahead of a World Cup qualifying match on Thursday in North Adelaide, the Australian players lined up in a row, put their arms around each other and stood silently in memory of the eight people killed on Saturday.

Members of the Saudi team largely appeared to disregard the tribute, with some milling around the field.
