For Americans who support law enforcement and trust them to safeguard both their liberties and their well-being, it is disheartening to hear officers say that the way to protect the latter is by curtailing the former.
San Jose Police Chief Eddie Garcia is one such officer, as he revealed in an interview with San Jose Inside. Asked about the topics of the day, Garcia not only expressed support for the controversial Black Lives Matter movement, but also voiced opposition to laws allowing Americans to own firearms for their protection.
As one might be wont to point out, a majority of law enforcement officers believe that Americans should retain the right to bear arms, meaning that Garcia is clearly in the minority on the issue. However, his position as chief of police for the 10th largest city in the country means that his opinion will carry weight among the uninformed and be cited by liberals as support for their anti-gun agenda.

You seem to be under the misapprehension that “gun control” means taking everyone’s right to have a gun away. It does not. It means that those who have given are “responsible” and have appropriate training. It means that those who breach what is expected of them as a “responsible gun owner” lose the right to have a gun.
I keep asking those so terrified of gun control to define “responsible gun owner”, and amazingly, have yet to receive any definition. I’ll begin the conversation, shall I?
Responsible gun owners have training in how to safely use, carry and store guns. They are mentally stable, and can be verified as such by a medical professional. They have no anger management issues, and no convictions for domestic violence or assault. They have secure storage, and are conscious of the need to keep their weapon out of the hands of other unauthorized users.
If these tenets of “responsibility” are breached, there should be penalties, including the loss of their “right” to own a gun. If their gun ends up in the hands of someone else because it was easily accessible, that carry some responsibility for what was done with it. If necessary, such breaches should be prosecuted as felonies, so that removal is based on their conviction as felons.
