Yesterday, on a radio program hosted by Wisconsin-based Jay Weber, Ryan spoke up in defense of Mueller, who’s been criticized by President Trump for running a “witch hunt.”
The president seems particularly upset by egregious conflicts of interest among the staff of Democrat lawyers assembled by Mueller to investigate allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 election and collusion with the Trump campaign.
In addition, President Trump has warned Mueller to not broaden the investigation to examine Trump family financial records.
During his interview with Weber, Ryan defended Mueller as a Republican who served as FBI director under President George W. Bush and stayed on into the Obama administration.
I don’t think many people are saying Bob Mueller is a biased partisan. He’s really, sort of, anything but.”
What people are actually saying is that Mueller is the prototype denizen of the Washington swamp, who moves smoothly from one globalist camp to another. They’re also concerned about his tight friendship with former FBI director James Comey, who did his part to spark Mueller’s appointment as Special Counsel.
None of that troubles Ryan, who also is comfortable in the swamp and clearly not in full support of the president’s agenda.
The point is we have an investigation in the House, an investigation in the Senate and a special counsel, which sort of de-politicizes this stuff and gets it out of the political theater, and that is, I think, better to get this off to the side,” Ryan said. “I think the facts will vindicate themselves, and then let’s just go do our jobs.”
What Ryan doesn’t say is he thinks his job is to undermine President Trump and promote subterfuge behind the scenes to sandbag the Trump agenda.
Ryan’s appearance on the Weber show is designed to shore up his support in his House district, which has been slipping due to his inability to get firmly behind the Trump administration’s initiatives. He lamely tried to project a different image for listeners.
What we’re not focused on doing is spending all of our time on Russia, spending all of our time on this intrigue. We want to spend our time focusing on solving people’s problems,” Ryan said. “Working on the problems people care about, their problems. Not this stuff.”
Businessman Paul Nehlen, who mounted a primary challenge to Ryan in 2016 has already announced his intention to try again, this time touting his own support for the Trump agenda and Ryan’s work against it.
