Just two days ago, the Associated Press jubilantly announced the complete and utter failure of the Trump administration to convince Republicans in Congress to pass a bill that would cover some, or even all, of the promises that were made during the president’s campaign.
In a snarky and sarcastic article, the reporter made sure to list all of the failures right off the bat, while touting an amazing victory by the Democrats for getting just about everything they wanted, including Planned Parenthood funding and a repudiation of environmental cuts.
In quoting Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Minority Leader, he claimed that the victory at their hands was assured after he warned the Republicans that they would be personally held responsible by constituents for a GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN!
It’s a pretty good bet that these same Democrats are not exactly cheering today. Republicans in the House of Representatives managed to eek out a victory today in the repeal of the Affordable Care Act (or ObamaCare).
House Speaker Paul Ryan, after withstanding a furious firestorm over the past few days in regards to his heretofore failure to rally Republicans to the cause, was able to approach the podium today and elaborate on his triumph.
Trump was quick to jump on the announcement, proclaiming, “Make no mistake, this is a repeal and a replace of Obamacare. Make no mistake about it. Make no mistake.” He finished, declaring the program “dead.”
The House members who were preparing to go back home to their districts to face their constituents would be in for a big disappointment if they had gone back without having followed through on a promise to gut ObamaCare.
As it is, being one of the most expensive and unpopular programs to come out of the federal government in decades, ObamaCare never enjoyed more than a 20-30% approval rating from the American people. In fact, it was one of the core issues that originally spurred on the spontaneous creation of the Tea Party movement.
A raucous House chamber was the setting for this very hot debate and ended with a narrow victory for Trump and Speaker Ryan of 217-213 margin.
Following was a hilarious display of the merriment on the parts of the Republicans as they chided House Democrats, Pelosi probably looking like a ragged doll with button eyes that have never shed a tear.
It already died in the Senate. https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2017-05-04/senate-gop-plans-own-obamacare-repeal-bill-after-house-action
