Report: Obama Ordered Comey to “Exonerate” Hillary

THE FBI PASSED ON THE INVESTIGATION THROUGH OBAMA’S ORDERS

This is McCarthy’s point.  He is baffled because the Right-wing elements of the GOP are up in arms and angry about the “revelation” that Comey wrote this exoneration of Hillary long before he had investigated her crimes, when the words of such an exoneration had already been uttered (nearly to the word) by the President of the United States on national television!

The news appears in a letter written to new FBI Director Christopher Wray by two senior Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans, Chairman Chuck Grassley and Senator Lindsey Graham. Pundits and the Trump administration are shrieking because this indicates the decision to give the Democrats’ nominee a pass was clearly made long before the investigation was over, and even long before key witnesses, including Clinton herself, were interviewed.

It shows, they cry, that the fix was in!

News Flash: This is not news.

Let’s think about what else was going on in April 2016. I’ve written about it a number of times over the last year-plus, such as in a column a few months back:

On April 10, 2016, President Obama publicly stated that Hillary Clinton had shown “carelessness” in using a private e-mail server to handle classified information, but he insisted that she had not intended to endanger national security (which is not an element of the [criminal statutes relevant to her e-mail scandal]). The president acknowledged that classified information had been transmitted via Secretary Clinton’s server, but he suggested that, in the greater scheme of things, its importance had been vastly overstated.

This is precisely the reasoning that Comey relied on in ultimately absolving Clinton, as I recounted in the same column:

On July 5, 2016, FBI director James Comey publicly stated that Clinton had been “extremely careless” in using a private email server to handle classified information, but he insisted that she had not intended to endanger national security (which is not an element of the relevant criminal statute). The director acknowledged that classified information had been transmitted via Secretary Clinton’s server, but he suggested that, in the greater scheme of things, it was just a small percentage of the emails involved.

Obama’s April statements are the significant ones. They told us how this was going to go. The rest is just details.

So, as can be seen here, the statement by Obama, made nationally, was that a) Hillary was careless in using a private email server, and b) She never intended on harming US national security.  We’ll get to that in a moment.

The notes in the letter written by Comey that would later serve to exonerate Hillary was that a) Hillary was careless in using a private email server, and b) She never intended on harming US national security.

See any difference in the wording of these two conclusions?  No?  That’s because Obama’s original nationally televised comments on the Hillary affair were for the purposes of setting the narrative for the FBI.  Comey was merely parroting the president when he wrote his “exoneration letter” in April and that was later used to give Hillary a free pass on a criminal indictment by the Department of Justice (although, as demonstrated previously, was never going to happen anyway).  It was all pre-designed as a clever ruse to make it APPEAR as if an active investigation was ongoing, but that’s all it was…an appearance of an investigation.  McCarthy had a clever line about this:

There is a way – a notoriously aggressive way – that the Justice Department and FBI go about their business when they are trying to make a case. Here, they were trying to unmake a case.

As to the whole idea that Hillary never MEANT to harm national security, that’s another way for Obama to have obfuscated the truth about Hillary’s illegal activities.  It’s the equivalent of saying that the guy who was robbing the old woman and ended up killing her by dragging her by her sleeve that was caught in the getaway car door wasn’t liable for the murder because he only intended on robbing her!

Obama used this ability to mask the truth on so many occasions that it cannot be calculated how many times he deflected from the real argument.  When the healthcare debate was ongoing, his answer to the Right’s charge that there would be death panels set up to deal with who would die and who wouldn’t was to ask the audience, “Don’t you think that we use emergency services way too much for issues that could be taken care of with aspirin or a Band Aid?”  Voila!  Instantly, the focus of the question about death panels becomes a debate about emergency services.  It’s a classic politician bait-and-switch that works with the deaf, dumb and blind every time.

Thankfully, the vast majority of the Right is no longer deaf, dumb and blind.

Now, if only we could make the Left less dumb.
