The crisis at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan is not getting any better, it has just dropped from the front pages of the newspapers over the years since the accident originally occurred. It remains the worst nuclear catastrophe since the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. Estimates now predict that it will take 40 years and $300 billion to finally clean this up.
Given the nature of nuclear radiation, cleaning up after an accident is neither easy nor optional. The radioactive fuel remains lethal for hundreds or thousands of years making the containment of the sources of that radioactivity imperative. At the same time, that deadly radiation makes clean-up work extremely difficult. With 300 tons of radioactive water per day being dumped into the Pacific ocean, small amounts of which having already been detected in the ocean in California, this is a catastrophe of unimaginable proportions. More on page two.
It’s why it’s called a “melt down.”
Who knows, Japan may just grow some new real estate in the deal. A new island in the ring of fire for China to build on. LOL
Between that and the Plastic Continent we have floating around the South Pacific. If people REALLY wanted global unity, they would protest those problems as to set the foundation strong for constructive working relationships. Instead the left would rather stop forward progression by sitting in the way sucking their thumbs.
I have yet to see the math that supports travel to the moon using the technology of the time.
And it’s working it’s way here.
One of the most dangerous place on earth! 🙁
Who thought it was a good idea to put a nuclear reactor on a tectonic fault line?
Exactly what i said when i woke this morning to find they are firing minuteman missles from there . Engineered pandemics and man made catastrophe! There is respect in fear which provides control for whom is inflicting fear.
Nasa needs to help them by using their radiation resistant methods as they used going through the van allen belt safely with all their moon missions. The average amount of radiation inside the Fukushima reactor is only 530 sieverts per hour when the astronauts going safely through the van allen belt were bombarded by an estimated 600 sieverts per hour without ill effects to the crew or electronics on the spacecraft.
