After many months of criticizing Fox News Anchor Megyn Kelly and her ability to fairly moderate the last debate before America begins to vote, Donald Trump has finally decided he will not participate. The opinions regarding the declined invitation are now beginning to roll in.
First, the obvious. Ted Cruz and his fellow candidates are piling on the GOP frontrunner for a decision they say puts the candidate over the people he intends to serve.
Cruz told Sean Hannity tonight that this is a job interview, and if you want the job, the first thing you need to do is show up for the interview.
“It is really remarkable that Donald Trump thinks so little of the men and women of Iowa that he is willing to skip the debate altogether,” Cruz said.
The Texas senator said that Trump is afraid of being asked the tough questions and having his record scrutinized.
Others outside the race have been less critical of Trump’s decisions. Media personalities such as Rush Limbaugh have openly questioned Fox’s handling of the event, particularly the way in which they handled the aftermath.
Some guy not even present will end up owning the entire event, and the proof of that is Fox News last night. I have to tell you, folks, this is where this gets tough for me. I was stunned watching Fox News last night. Fox News was acting like they had been jilted at the altar. If it had been me — and this is easy to say — if it had been me and Donald Trump makes a big to-do about not showing up for the debate, report the story and move on
In Breitbart’s John Nolte’s opinion, the loss was entirely that of Fox News.
Those of us who obsessively observe the media never thought we would see a day like yesterday, a day when someone finally got the better of Fox News and Roger Ailes. The infallible network proved itself fallible with two of the biggest strategic errors in the history of its existence. First, The Mighty Fox fired off a snarky but strategically stupid press release that played directly into Donald Trump’s hands. Then, an obviously rattled Megyn Kelly seeking solace from Trump’s withering spotlight, sought that solace in no less than anti-American filmmaker Michael Moore.
For the record, Donald Trumps campaign seems perfectly pleased with the decision, and seem confident that once the ratings roll in, they’ll have proved their point.
GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, posted on Twitter that 83 percent of Fox News viewers surveyed said they won’t watch the Fox News GOP primary debate on Thursday without Trump participating.
If his campaign is right, he may have proved himself the ultimate victor in the fight that never was against Megyn Kelly, but an indictment of the entire mainstream media.
