The American Civil War was to preserve the Union, not free the slave. That was thrown in after the Battle of Anthem since Great Britain and France were getting ready to recognize the South as a Nation. Lincoln needed a victory to announce the Emancipation Proclamation. Anthem was a blood bath. For Lincoln that was close enough. The Union soldiers of 1861 that enlisted to fight the south was to preserve the Union not die freeing slaves.
lmao Hypocrite he was the one man who did nothing but ignore constitution any state or part of state may leave the union long as its legal the south did and he ignored it by calling up arms to invade the south and because of it over 600.000 poor women and children died over it freeing the slaves was the only good thing he has done witch would of gone away in time when most confederates were fighting for states rights not to have slaves only the rich gained anything out of as the poor had to suffer
