Dr. Ben Burris wanted to give low-income persons in Arkansas cleaning services they could afford, but when he tried, he was treatened by the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners – telling him they would revoke his licenses if he continued.
Arkansas law prohibits specialists, like orthodontists, from performing work outside their specialty, even though they are qualified to practice general dentistry.
This is in violation of the 14th Amendment, which states professionals can perform any task they are qualified for.
¨More than half the people of Arkansas don´t have access to regular dental care. Access of care is my passion. I want everyone who wants a great smile to afford it,¨ states Dr. Burris.
Many people simply can´t afford to pay hundreds of dollars for a simple cleaning, and this law prevents competition in the marketplace and inflates prices. In the end, the law only helps dentists, not the public.
Dr. Burris is now fighting this law, which is federal. You can find out more about his case here: http://ij.org/r/arkansas-dentistry/
IF THIS MAN WANTS TO HELP PEOPLE WITH A CHEAPER PRICE HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO SO,I CAN REMEMBER WHEN IF YOU WENT TO THE DENTIST, IT WAS NOT SO EXPENSIVE NOT UNTIL THE INSURANCE COMPANIES RAN EVERY THING
BLESS YOUR HEART
“WTF”?
Nice, how about voting them out this time!!!!
………..ABSOLUTELY UNFORGIVABLE FOR THEM TO DO THIS TO THIS DENTIST. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO GOOD WILL IN OUR COUNTRY WHERE EVERY ONE HAS TO BOW DOWN TO OTHERS IT IS JUST NOT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gov. Mike Beebe (D) on April 23, 2013, signed the state’s expansion plan into law. Under the plan, Arkansas would accept the federal money for Medicaid expansion provided through the ACA but would use it to buy private insurance for about 250,000 eligible low-income residents. The federal government approved the plan in September 2013.
So blaming the democrats is a big fat FAIL since they did opt into the exchange. Check who runs the state board, guarantee you it isn’t democrats but people in the health field who want nothing more than a bunch of red tape for low income patients and another excuse to blame the President, as demonstrated by the inane comments already on here.
To be an orthodontist, he already completed dental school. This is akin to telling a podiatrist not to perform CPR on a heart patient because it is outside of his “specialization” and stupid.
You go Dr. Burris!
wrong, they should allow him. he is a dentist for goodness sakes!
Where are bill and hillary from? Oh yes. A state that sort of permits cousins to “marry” gets into this squabble? oh. are bill and hillary really first cousins?
God forbid you try to do a GOOD deed! God Bless!!!
If the man has gone to school, earned his degree to practice dentistry then opens his own practice he should be able to do whatever the heck he wants to. I’m sick of all the bullies in government. They can all kiss my big butt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
