Oregon Passes Bill Decriminalizing Meth, Crack and Heroin

Oregon’s legislature recently passed legislation, H.B. 2335, decimalizing Cocaine, Meth, and Heroin. H.B. 2335 allows for drugs such as cocaine, meth, heroin, MDMA, LSD and oxycodone to be decriminalized in small amounts considered to be less than 2 weeks supply. In addition to reducing probation periods for those caught with larger amounts and convicted with drug related felonies or misdemeanors.

H.B. 2355 passed both the House and Senate last week and reduces possession of illegal drugs to misdemeanors rather than felonies as long as the person in possession does not have prior drug convictions. According to a press release issued on July 7 by Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, the bill provides for “the reduction of penalties for lower level drug offenders. The bill also reduces the maximum penalty for Class A misdemeanors by one day to avoid mandatory deportation for misdemeanants.”

This bill is also intended to make it harder to deport illegal immigrants and protect ethnic minorities hardest hit by strict drug laws.

“[The bill] would also reduce drug possession from a felony to a misdemeanor for those individuals in possession of small amounts of drugs who do not have substantial criminal histories. Oregon-based data provided to the task force demonstrated disparities that result in more minorities convicted and sentenced to drug-related felonies solely because of their racial or ethnic status. The bill will also protect lawful immigrants from facing mandatory deportation for low-level, non-violent offenses.”

Again, you can get all mad about immigrants being allowed to get busted with heroin and not deported, but you’d be wasting your time. Fighting this is illogical: the war on drugs is ineffective anyway, to begin with, countries that have decimalized drugs actually have lower drug use, and more importantly, this isn’t really at the root of the problem or what’s really going on. The entire system and country are irrevocably corrupt. And we don’t really have a say in the direction of our country. That’s the bigger problem that we all should be looking at NOT these stupid little partisan traps set out by the establishment to get the people going and believing their opinion matters. News flash – it doesn’t.

Wake-up, we got to take back our country and start from the bottom-up before sensible measures can be permanently implemented to leave the government out and humane measures in place to help the people struggling with addiction.

As Rep. Mitch Greenlick, told Portland-based health outlet the Lund Report:

“We’ve got to treat people, not put them in prison. It would be like putting them in the state penitentiary for having diabetes… This is a chronic brain disorder and it needs to be treated this way.”

“When you put people in prison and given them a felony conviction, you make it very hard for them to succeed,” he added.

If somebody accidentally shoots themselves you’re not going to lock them up in prison for being an idiot. No matter how tempting and easier that idea might be, it’s not going to happen. Why do we treat drug addicts any differently?

We live in a country where things such as stopping a failing war on drugs (not like Jeff Sessions would know about that…) to devote our resources on more pertinent issues like human trafficking. Can you imagine if we went after trafficking rings the way we did drug cartels?? But, we don’t. And why do you think that is? It’s like a dog chasing its tail. You can’t ever win in a failing corrupt enabling system, and that goes for President Trump as well. And more importantly, that is our responsibility as individuals to fight to change that, not keep thinking that we are somehow better for drinking the cherry flavored Kool Aid instead of the blue raspberry.
