The Federal government does not like to be challenged, and it has the resources and the power to make citizens yield, and does so when it cannot win the argument. If you have been following the conflict in Oregon recently between ranchers and the Federal government, you will know that the government, which owns over 50% of the land in eleven western states, is willing to jail you for unintended trespass of undeveloped, unoccupied land.
Two ranchers who did some brush clearing of their own ranch, but inadvertently burned some of the adjoining federal land, are now in prison for a long stay, based on a charge of arson. It is worth pointing out that the fire they started was put out by the ranchers without outside help, and the land itself is actually now healthier and more productive due to the reduction of brush and overgrowth. But the government wants to make sure that everyone understands they are in charge and they have the power.
A small group of ranchers, led by Ammon Bundy, are occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge building in protest of the unjust sentence and the overbearing government position. Fortunately, no violence has developed, but Bundy and his group have vowed to stay until the two ranchers in question are freed. But the government still wants to make a strong point, and they have enlisted a judge to help them.
Huge fine threatened, page 2:
What does president Obama have to do with any of this? The judge is a county judge. The prosecutor who tried the Hammonds was appointed by President Bush- and charged them under a republican supported law. They did almost burn some firefighters alive after all. The very county the business man Ammon Bundy claims to speak for. Btw he is not a rancher-his dad is, if we call running trespass cattle on public land ranching). Unlike Mr. Bundy, the judge was elected. The group has stolen taxpayer owned equipment, vandalized public property, claimed a rancher asked for the fence removed- he did not. The refuge and local ranchers have worked well together especially lately. Harney county residents have twice voted overwhelming for these jokers to go back to their home states. Both times at the militant’s request. Twice the locals were ignored.
Hahaha EXCELLENT POINT. SERIOUSLY
The government is charging for what babysitting the militia. I guess the militia should charge for the repairs the made while they’ve been there. And then file a lawsuit and SUE for the slander and deformation of character for the FBI agents who dressed up impersonating them and harassed the locals. Trying to give the militia bad media. Food for thought.
Such injustice! Probably the same judge that decided father & son hadn’t served enough time in prison & sent them back for more. He should be removed from the bench
The government doesn’t own that property and yes, they do have the power to do what they want. That property belongs to the people.
And al the police cars they rolled & burned & police officers that were shot in the face …,,
The government gangsters are at it again. If we get a republican into office, I hope he makes the government PAY those ranchers $70,000.00 per day, plus additional damages for all the grief they caused.
