A bill named H.R. 22, which passed the House and Senate, is looking to stop your overseas travel if you owe Uncle Sam a tax debt. The language used in the title is “Revocation or Denial of Passport in Case of Certain Tax Delinquencies.” No word on who decides what “certain tax delinquencies” will be but we can assume the “most transparent administration in history” will not keep us in the dark for long.
There is the possibility of this growing more popular with lawmakers because it makes it easier to extend their reach into American’s bank accounts both here and abroad.
Surprisingly, the targets of the bill are not criminals, tax evaders or people who are suspected of fleeing a tax debt. The targets are regular Americans. Small Business owner, retirees, entrepreneurs, anyone who isn’t working a 9-5 job is a target for this bill.
