Obama Praises Kaepernick’s Protest, He’s Being ‘Sincere’ with ‘Real Legitimate Issues’

For those who are just getting up to speed on this story, Colin Kaepernick is the 49ers quarterback who refused to stand for our national anthem.  Seems his issue is with “black opposition.”  Also seems he might have an influence in the form of a Muslim girlfriend Nessa Diab who is a VJ for the cable channel MTV.  She doesn’t seem to have much use for the United States and perhaps that rubbing off on Kaepernick.

Given that any of this makes the news is a bit of a disappointment to me given the other national and international political and economic crises already in progress and which threaten to get much worse.  Crises that will impact us a lot more than whether some block-headed quarterback wants to stand or sit for the National Anthem.

Yes, he’s being disrespectful of those who’ve served our country and deserves all the criticism he gets. But I dislike giving such an individual any more attention than absolutely necessary.

What’s even more disappointing is that our president (yes, the same guy who can’t get a visit to China right), has seen fit to weigh in on this matter of alleged national crisis.

Obama admitted that it was “tough thing” for people to see Kaepernick disrespect the flag and the people that served in the military, but then he defended it.

“I don’t doubt his sincerity, based on what I’ve heard,” Obama said. “I think he cares about some real legitimate issues that have to be talked about. If nothing else what he’s done is he’s generated more conversation about some topics that need to be talked about.”

Obama cited his preference for an “active citizenry” rather than Americans sitting on the sidelines.

Well, no surprise there.  Neither Mr. Obama nor Mr. Kaepernick seem to be very respectful of our nation and its traditions.

That Obama is fine with showing scorn for the nation’s flag seems par for the course.  No doubt Obama as well as Kaepernick, neither of whom have ever made any sacrifices for our country as far as I know, look at American history and traditions as “Washington and the Cherry Tree,” nothing to take seriously.

What’s frustrating is that one of these guys we have to take seriously because of his office, and the other should just be a footnote. It’s all very frustrating.
