In a video address to the people of West African countries, President Barack Obama stated that, “You cannot get it through casual contact like sitting next to someone on a bus.”
However, the CDC begs to differm, issuing advice to travelers, stating “avoid public transportation.”
“First, Ebola is not spread through the air like the flu,” Obama said in the video released by the White House Thursday. “You cannot get it through casual contact like sitting next to someone one a bus. You cannot get it from another person until they start showing symptoms of the disease, like fever.”
Obama also said that “the most common way you can get Ebola is by touching the body fluids of someone who is sick or has died from it, like their sweat, saliva or blood, or through a contaminated item like a needle.”
The CDC, however, is advising aid workers and others who travel to countries currently experiencing Ebola outbreaks to “avoid public transportation” if they develop a fever or experience other Ebola-like symptoms while on their trip.
Listed among their online recommendations for travelers journeying to Liberia, Guinea, Nigeria or Sierra Leone, the CDC advises travelers who begin to exhibit possible Ebola symptoms and choose to visit a doctor to “Limit your contact with other people when you travel to the doctor; avoid public transportation.”
The CDC also told travelers with Ebola symptoms, “Do not travel anywhere except to the doctor’s office or hospital.”
“If you get symptoms of Ebola, it is important to stay apart from other people and call your doctor right away,” the website continues.
The CDC also explains a person may contract Ebola if he or she “spends a long amount of time within three feet (one meter) of a person who is sick with Ebola.”
Recommended precautions to avoid contracting Ebola “includes wearing a mask over your mouth and nose, waterproof gloves, a gown (to protect clothing), and eye protection (goggles or a face shield – corrective glasses are not enough).”
On another page detailing Ebola exposure risks and “Public Health Actions,” the CDC reports there is “some risk of exposure” from “other close contact with an [Ebola] patient in health care facilities or community settings.” For these patients, the CDC recommends “If air transport is clinically appropriate and indicated, air medical transport only (no commercial conveyances permitted).”
Obama knows nothing about Ebola,he doesn’t even know about politics,so what do you expect.
Then let his sorry ass ride a bus full of ebola ridden people then.
He is aputz idiot.
Shandra, I hate it for your friends and your parents, but on a conscious level, they had sex without protection and dealt with the “consequence”. They knew their odds and played anyway. This woman was responsible, she knew unprotected sex wasn’t an option, so she got THE WRONG tube tied. She was stacking the odds in her favor by signing paperwork for the CORRECT tube to be tied. The dr took the odds away from her when she had unprotected sex. She obviously still dealt with her “consequence” bc she didn’t abort. It’s been FOUR years. She didn’t just have the baby bc she was going to get monetary gain. She had the baby, the baby turned out to be sickle cell, and at that point, watching her baby in agony, she sued. AGONY. You can’t comfort a baby with sickle cell. Young parents find it impossible so I cant imagine how an older couple, a couple that did the responsible thing and spent the $$$ to have the surgery feel when they did everything they could to prevent it. If the dr had paid attention, read the chart, used his professional judgement and abided by the “do no harm” of his oath, he would not be sued and a toddler out there would not be suffering. She’s here for a reason, her mother knows that, her mother is caring for her, but I’m sure every time the mother tries to console irrational pain that her daughter is feeling, she has to go through the resentment over and over. It’s not about her love, her financial ability to pay for it herself, it’s her odds were stolen from her. Her peace of mind of having unprotected sex with her husband without consequence was taken from her. She knows her child is precious. She’s reminded of that when her daughter is having a good day, just like she is reminded of her drs mistake every time her daughter has a flare up and she is at a loss of how she can help. I’m not berating you, Shandra. I know this story is special to your heart since you were a special needs baby, but your parents found out they were pregnant, knew that every pregnancy comes with a risk and they rolled the dice but loved you and cared for you. This woman was blindsided. She trusted her dr to do what he was supposed to do. Not treat her like a chart number and neglect to study which tube to tie. He failed. When drs fail, patients sue and for a lot pettier things than this. He signed his insurance policy. He knew the consequences of his actions too. He failed anyway.
