Barack Obama’s plans on the weekend of Antonio Scalia’s funeral may not have been set in stone when it was said that he would not attend, but he’s managed to make plans since, it seems, and it may be even more disrespectful than if he had just done nothing at all.
President Barack Obama was seen walking from the West Wing into the White House on Friday night, a binder of potential Supreme Court nominees under his arm.
Josh Earnest, Obama’s White House Press Secretary, said the president will spend a significant portion of his weekend reviewing individuals who ‘may be worthy of consideration’.
‘I would expect the president will spend a significant portion of his weekend digging into those materials,’ he added.
Earlier today Obama and Michelle paid their respects at the Supreme Court as Justice Antonin Scalia’s body lay in repose.
The president then spoke during a Democratic Governors Association Meeting, in which he told a group of Democratic governors he will press voting rights this year.
Earnest said on Thursday the president would be skipping Scalia’s funeral on Saturday because of his ‘security footprint’.
Of course, Obama tried to justify his absenteeism by paying respects to the justice at his wake. Even then, his move was hardly convincing.
Friday, the Obamas spent approximately 35 seconds in front of the casket and then approximately 67 seconds in front of the portrait of Scalia.
Obama went golfing the day after the funeral:
Obama spent Saturday digging into material about nominating a potential successor. He put off his golf game on the balmy Washington weekend until Sunday morning.

It’s clear Obama is taking a lot of joy in replacing the conservative justice. He obviously also takes a lot of joy flaunting his disrespect. In a time in which there is very little in which D.C. can agree, one would think that the death of such a huge figure would at least warrant some respect across the isle. Guess not.
