Democrat and Republican liberals alike often excoriate those who think that welfare programs should not be parceled out indiscriminately, but should require something from the recipients. Back when Bill Clinton was fighting impeachment, he actually signed on to a welfare for work program, and amazingly, the welfare roles shrank!
It turns out that if people can get stuff for free, without having to do anything for it, they will. That should not be a surprise. The other thing liberals will have us believe is that welfare recipients have no responsibility for their situation. While that is certainly true in some cases, there are many more that result from poor decisions and behavior.
Starting late last year, North Carolina began requiring drug testing of new applicants for a state welfare program. A number of politicians decried the requirement as unfair, saying that it was too costly, and that it was onerous to those who would be required to take the test. The test was not universal and applied only to one program, but the results were quite surprising.

You be surprised of the motivation that would come after they get a little hungry.
Lot of Mexican there
What would you do if you were in the same situation?
Changing society thinking is a great start. Why is it we have so many people having children when they don’t have the means to provide food, shelter and healthcare. Is it the neighbors fault these people are breeding, doing drugs and so on. Personal accountability is the only way to combat society issues, all the liberal programs to help combat society issues have obviously failed and are simply abused. We can’t fix stupid, we can’t continue to condone bad choices. We certainly need a program to assist families that unfortunately face job cuts, health issues or even tragic deaths. But we can’t continue to just hand out free everything because they had irresponsible sex with no means of providing for the children these people continue to create.
All I see are healthy, most likely illegal Mexicans.
I agree with you. Im against it. The comment above was meant to be thought pr
Good
Hell, just make them work twenty hours a week to stay eligible, that would cut forty to sixty percent in the first month. That’s the problem with bringing refugees, they get everything free, but who pays that, because every person that pays taxes knows who.
Florida tried this but Florida Supreme Court said it was unconstitutional.
Straight from the article, your original comment is ridiculous “Now early results are in, with only 2 percent of the 7,600 applicants referred for drug testing. Of the 89 applicants referred out, 21, or almost one quarter, tested positive for illegal drugs. But an additional 70 applicants who were told they would be tested never showed up for their appointments, and therefore did not receive benefits. So of the 159 applicants who were told they had to take a drug test, 57% tested positive or failed to appear, presumably because they knew they would fail the test.
And yet, critics of the program such as Democratic State Senator Gladys Robinson say the testing is ineffective and too expensive. The cost per test is $55, which could be dramatically decreased by using in-office testing as a preliminary screen with a cost of around $2 per test.”
