Democrat and Republican liberals alike often excoriate those who think that welfare programs should not be parceled out indiscriminately, but should require something from the recipients. Back when Bill Clinton was fighting impeachment, he actually signed on to a welfare for work program, and amazingly, the welfare roles shrank!
It turns out that if people can get stuff for free, without having to do anything for it, they will. That should not be a surprise. The other thing liberals will have us believe is that welfare recipients have no responsibility for their situation. While that is certainly true in some cases, there are many more that result from poor decisions and behavior.
Starting late last year, North Carolina began requiring drug testing of new applicants for a state welfare program. A number of politicians decried the requirement as unfair, saying that it was too costly, and that it was onerous to those who would be required to take the test. The test was not universal and applied only to one program, but the results were quite surprising.
See test results on page 2:
that is the pat answer we all have been feed. there is common since in it, just enough to pass a litmus test in the average persons mind. but the real scam here is subjugation through the so-called war on drugs. if the law is good enough for one citizen. then apply it to all including law makers especially and first to the president on down to the dog catcher. not ALL jobs are so technical or dangerous that mandatory testing should happen. there was never any real problem to begin with and what ever problem there was/is is exasperated by more draconian laws that government does not follow themselves.
What about the children
A drug test for me was $50.00 for a urine sample and $85 for the hair follicle. .after adj..and pymts.
89 people were tested at $55/test, but 21 failed and had to pay for their test.
So, NC taxpayers spent $55 x 68 = $3,740 total.
But, of the 91 failures (21 fails and 70 no shows), 79 were removed completely from NC welfare saving $257,856, and 12 get reduced payments saving another $5,184, or $263,040 total savings.
$263,040 – $3,740 = $259,300 total savings to NC taxpayers
It was a small sample of people (2%) and you don’t have to pay for a test that someone doesn’t show up to take genius.
The maths are strong with this one
Past time for Tennessee to start testing
What if the government tested every person in America ? Even children.
Except you didn’t read the actual article. You read what Breitbart wanted you to read. 7600 people were screened. Of those 7600 people 159 were “tagged” and required to be tested. There’s a difference between screening ($55) and testing (more). So although your “maths” may have been correct your information is false. The sample size was NOT 2%. It was 7600. The 2% is those who were tagged under the screening. Less than 1.2% of those receiving benefits were found to be involved with drugs.
Amen.
There might be single people out there doing drugs and getting stuff from the system and some are probably abusing this. But, I wonder if someone with children tested positive, would you let the children starve because of the parent stupidity. Or take them away from the parent and put them in the over crowded foster care system. There is really no right answer to this.
They work or they die! Pretty easy to figure out,get job buy food! If they do starve hell we need to rid this country of the entitled! Maybe theyll have to sell their Cadillacs and I phones not buy 300 pairs of shoes and drugs!
