Appearances matter. Case in point: a 14-year-old Muslim boy who enjoys tinkering with things was arrested after bringing a homemade clock to his Texas high school. The clock was inside a hard case filled with wires and batteries that made it appear to be a homemade bomb.
The arrest prompted speculations of Islamophobia from the Islamic groups, but police say they won’t charge him with creating a “hoax bomb.” Photos of the device would cause anyone to question it.
